Taste Testing at World of Coca-Cola

Here I am sampling one of 50 or more soft drinks from around the world.

Here's a video of me "speed" tasting 8 different flavours from around the world...not the typical Coke flavours. The last one is "Beverly" (from Italy), and infamous for tasting like detergent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beverly_(drink)

Segway Tour of Atlanta

What a great way to see the city - riding a Segway! The Segway automatically balances. Lean forward to go forward, lean back to slow down or stop.

CNN

We toured CNN studios. It had the potential to be very interesting, but the tour itself wasn't that great. Also, we weren't allowed to take pictures while inside.

Fogo De Chao

We went to Fogo De Chao - a Brazilian Barbecue style restaurant, where various cuts of meat are slowly cooked, and brought out on spits. You can eat as much as you want. It was very good.

James Earl Jones

Today I got to see James Earl Jones and Adora Svitek demonstrate the modernization of story-telling. James read the Prince and the Pea, while 9-year old Adora searched around the web in front of the audience, researching content for a modernized version of the story. When he was done reading, the audience gave suggestions to Adora for her version. Astonishingly, she completed a modern version like no one on this earth could. James is an advocate of reading and learning. Adora is a young genius who has published works. She later signed copies of her latest novel. Part of this demonstrates that kids today, in their exposure to a high-paced, muti-tasked environment, have greater brain capacity as a result - a big theme of this conference.

Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium is one of the largest in the world. Below: Jellyfish, sharks above a glass ceiling, and the second largest single aquarium glass in the world (something like 64 feet wide). The Whaleshark in the photo is actually the size of a school bus (difficult to gauge the size from the photo)

Leadership Symposium - Sunday Morning

This morning I attended ISTE's Leadership Symposium at the Omni Hotel in downtown Atlanta. Approximately 200 people from all over North America were invited to learn about and discuss trends in Web 2.0 and student standards. Photos below: The Omni at CNN Center; a view of Olympic Park in the early morning; the symposium

Three Educational Technology Consultants (Kelly, Michelle, and myself) are attending NECC. We have started a wiki highlighting our conference notes (ie. session notes, etc.). The wiki is here http://pvsd-edtech.wikispaces.com/

Braves Game - Saturday Afternoon

We made into Atlanta alright and to the Braves game in time for the opening pitch. It was so hot in the sun in left field (where our seats were located). We spent most of the time in other locations watching the game. It had to be about 40 degrees celcius - not exaggerating! It was a good game - down to the bottom of the 9th. The Tigers beat the Braves 2-1 in front of a sold-out 49,047 fans.
